Nice place. Seats are small and a little crowded in the balcony. Would not want to be there if the place caught fire. It would be very difficult to get out of!
Reserved seats on four bands: orchestra (A–J plus a bar row), side boxes, mezzanine, and balcony. Not general admission. Configurations can vary by night; match the section on the listing to the chart.
Orchestra: reserved floor sections A–J and the bar row.
Boxes A and B: side of the floor, still reserved.
Mezzanine Left / Center / Right (sometimes sold as loge): stairs, no elevator.
Balcony Left / Center / Right: highest reserved band.
The Wilbur opened in 1914 on the site of the old Winthrop School for Girls and was named for theatre manager A.L. Wilbur.
Clarence H. Blackall designed it as Boston’s first playhouse in the American Colonial style, with a front portico copied from an 1837 Beacon Hill house.
The room is compact on purpose: every reserved seat sits close to the stage, a layout from before electric amplification.
It stands at 246 Tremont Street in the Theatre District. Comedy and music share the calendar.
There is no elevator. The mezzanine and balcony are reached by stairs; a lift serves the accessible restroom on the lower level.
